Take a small pan heat 1 tbsp oil, add 1 tbsp toor dal and 3 dried red chilli, fry for 2 min.
Now blend this masala with 2 tbsp grated coconut and 1 tsp tamarind extract with little water.
Transfer this mixture to kadai then add 4 cups water, 1 tsp jaggery and salt to taste, boil for 3 minutes.
Now prepare tempering, take a small pan heat 1 tbsp oil add ½ tsp mustard seeds and 1 dried red chilli, fry 2 min then pour this mixture to kattu saaru or toor dal rasam.
