Huruli Saaru Recipe | Kudu Saaru Recipe | Horsegram Rasam Recipe. Kudu saaru is very popular rasam in udupi and mangalore region. Horse gram is rich in nutrients and have plenty of minerals too- phosphorus, calcium, protein and iron.

Take 1 cup huruli and wash.
Pressure cook with 6 cups of water in the cooker for 1 whistle and simmer for 25 minutes.
Now prepare masala: Take a pan add 4 dried red chilli, 1 tsp coriander seeds, 2 tsp cumin seeds, ½ tsp fenugreek seeds and 1 tsp oil, fry for 2 to 3 min.
Grind this fried masala along with ½ cup grated coconut, 2 tsp cooked huruli and a garlic clove with little water.
Take a kadai add cooked huruli, 1 tbsp jaggery, 1 tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste.
When it starts to boil add the ground masala, and mix well.
Boil on a low flame for 10 minutes. Add more water to adjust the consistency.
Now prepare tempering: Take a small pan add 1 tbsp coconut oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds and 6 garlic cloves, saute till garlic turns golden brown in colour.
Pour this tempering over the boiling huruli saaru.
